Local Buses
This is a picture of the pamphlet you can pick up on either the Gardens Bus or the Gardens Mall. My recommendation is to take the short walk to the earliest pick-up spot. If you just wait around at the Bayu or Palma stops there is a good possibility that the bus will be full. This is the only bus in the area that runs on Sundays and holidays.
Both buses are owned and run by UEM/Sunrise and you 'must' have an ID from your residents to ride. These buses tend to break down and often have combined schedules... so keep an eye on the local bus stop boards.
Other Public Transportation
There are many, many, MANY, different ways of getting around KL. As I am only covering Mont Kiara I won't go into the depth of explanation that this requires. Here is the web address of the most reliable website so far (might change) that lists the many, ever changing routes.
There are currently four different rail systems, three different (competing) highway designers, five different major bus companies, and of course lots of cabs.
Cabbing It
DO NOT get in a cab that does not agree to using its' meter. We are trying very hard to get that type of driver out of Mont Kiara and the community would appreciate your cooperation. Cabs are generally great and they know the rules. Be sure to add that extra 1 ringit when they take you by way of the toll booth... yes these toll booths are worth the time and money.
Apps such as MyTexi all work very much like a dispatcher. The driver will often call you and ask if you want to be picked up right away even though you have scheduled a certain time to be picked up.
Your own... personal... vehicle
Unless you have a family too large to fit into a single cab, I do not recommend buying a vehicle. Buying and maintaining a vehicle is one of the few things in Malaysia that I consider way over the cost of living level. If you must get a vehicle please make sure you talk to someone who is experienced in driving around this place.
"All roads lead to the airport!"
Blue cabs and vans are. Much more expensive than budget cabs.
