Food n' Stuff on Foot

--This page is currently being updated... might take some time as I gather information of all the places I walk--

On here I will only be covering places I have gone and my opinion of each.  You can find everything within walking distance.  Point of origin for distances is Mont Kiara International School.
Please do, with an emphasis on DO, add places you have gone in Mont Kiara and have enjoyed eating at in the comments section at the bottom.
*Most Asian food places have cold/hot green tea that is refillable if you don't want to pay for additional drinks.

1 Mont Kiara (MK1) - 5-8 minutes walk
http://www.1montkiara.com/index.php
Food
Nando's - My personal favorite place to eat.  Peri-Peri (white owl pepper) flavored chicken either whole, in pieces, or made into a burger/wrap.  If you don't like spicy you also have the option of ordering lemon & herb flavor.  Lots and lots of different ways to serve the chicken plus delicious sides like potatoe wedges, corn on the cob, coleslaw, etc.  Currently this is the only place I know of that still has free refills on fountain drinks.
Suki-ya - I was not familiar with 'hot pot shabu-shabu' before I came here but this is my second favorite place to go.  An all you can eat bar of fresh veggies, tofu, noodles, and other healthy treats to throw on a plate and bring back to your table.  They will bring you your choice of broths and thin sliced meats.  Then you can either eat it the traditional way where you dip it in a boiling hot broth for a few seconds to cook it and eat it, OR you can do what I do and dump it all in to cook and make a fantastic soup.
Sushi Zanmai - The closest sushi place that has the fun conveyor belt.  This place is quick and inexpensive (if you know what to order).
Pasta Zanmai - I have given this place two tries and have received horrible service on both occasions.  I was not impressed with what I ordered either.
Pacific Coffee - If you like Hot Hazelnut Lattes, then you must come here and give it a try.  They have the best hot lattes I have found so far.
Cafe Berlin - A wonderful little bakery that has fresh everything in the morning.
Boost Juice Bar - The same chain you have probably run into before, I enjoy their drinks.
Menya Kamikaze - Basically a ramen noodle place.  Fast service and the food tastes fresh.
Yogen fruz - Absolutely a must have for anyone and everyone.  Frozen Yogurt place with awesome flavors.  The apple pie yogurt actually tastes like apple pie.
Coffee Club - They have a nice dining area in the back and it seems to be very popular with the locals.  They have some pretty unique designer desserts but the coffee is actually quite plain.
Taps - The local hangout for Expats looking for a drink and a social atmosphere.  Live music.
The Bar°N - An upscale dining place, a little overpriced for food that tastes normal.  Live music.
Bangkok House - Have not really enjoyed the quality of food here.  Disappointed by the Pad Thai.  I have friends that really enjoy the pineapple rice but I'm not really looking for a 'just rice' dish.

Stuff
Village Grocer - Our local grocer.  It pretty much has everything you would expect a grocery store to have including the 'non-halal' shops in the back left corner for all your pork and alcohol needs.
Harvey Norman - Appliances for the entire house.  I recommend coming here during or right after a holiday for the best deals/sales.
Birkenstock - A shoe brand that my wife likes and is apparently very reliable
H&M - Clothing and accessory store that most people are familiar with.
F.O.S. - A clothing and accessory store that costs a little less then H&M and does not carrry designer brands.
Pandora - A wonderful little jewelry shop for gifts.
Garden Scents - A strategically placed flower shop you will always pass on the way to the grocer.
Caring Pharmacy - Our pharmacy, always needed.
GNC - World wide chain for all your health nut needs.
Borders - Our very own Borders Book Store Express.  They can order.
Home-Fix - A little hardware store with a paint mixer in the back, right next to the grocery store.
iStore - A place for Macintosh(Apple) people.
Tokuya - 100 yen store, dollar store, whatever you want to call it.
Pet Lover's Center - Our pet store for all your pet's needs.  They even sell hamsters.
Maxis - Here is where you get your first mobile phone.
My Money Shop - Our local money changer.
Watches of Switzerland Repair Shop - They do sell watches but they are mostly used to repair watches and eye glasses or if you need those hard to find batteries.
SportsDirect.com - Big sporting goods store that has a little bit of everything.  Get your giant umbrellas here.
BomBom Print and Party Shop - our very own little party store for decorations and printing on shirts and balloons.

Plaza Mont Kiara - 5-8 minutes walk
http://www.plazamontkiara.com.my/
Sunday Morning and Thursday Evening there is an open air market with a huge variety of vendors.

Food
McDonald's - I have always had great service here.  They are quick and the food is great quality for a McDonald's.  Don't forget to get a hot fudge sundae.
Subway - A perfectly normal subway.  For those of you not familiar, it's a build your own sub-sandwich shop.
Secret Recipe - A common chain restaurant around KL that has a pretty good coffee and cheesecake deal for the price.  Portions are small, but so are the prices, so great for a small pick-me-up.
Banana Leaf - Wonderful buffet style Indian food that is also inexpensive.  Self serve so it can be a time saver if you are in a hurry and don't have a lot of money.
Starbucks - For you Starbucks type people, here it is.  I have found this one is a hit or miss depending on which staff is on duty.  Sometimes the coffee is fantastic, sometimes it is craptastic.

Stuff
DHL - International carrier you are probably familiar with.
Malaysia POS - local post office.  I have had not problems with them so very reliable so far.

Solaris - 15-18 minutes walk (There are so many little stores and places to eat in this area.  It is set up like a strip mall and the shops are constantly changing.)
Food
Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf - An average Coffee Bean.  Haven't had any good or bad experiences here.
Starbucks - I really like this Starbucks.  The staff have always been super friendly and helpful with finding stuff around Solaris.  They make good frappes too.

Stuff
Cold Storage - Another little shopping center in the back corner of this shopping mall.
Party@World - A good store for all your party needs (makeup, costumes, favors, balloons, deco, etc.).  We used this place before the one opened at MK1.

Publica (not technically MK but close enough) - 25-35 minutes walk http://www.publika.com.my/publika/home/
Food
Fatboy's Burger Bar - A burger joint set up like a 50's diner with the music to compliment the atmosphere.  An extremely creative menu and the food is pretty tasty to boot.

Stuff
BIG: Ben's General Food Store http://thebiggroup.co/bens/ - huge grocer that has a couple restaurants inside.  It has a big specialty section for organic food and spices.  The area that sells pork also has an attached diner that serves pork dishes and serves the drinks from the attached alcohol section.  There is also a sandwich diner smack dab in the middle.  It has a large produce and deli area.  There is a coffee shop, a flower shop, a gift shop, and several aisles of stuff for home and kitchen.
Wellcom PC - This is my go to place for parts and wires for anything computer related.  They can also build you a personalized computer for a really great price.  I personally just love to walk into this place and look around to see what new computer gadgets are out.

Shopplex - 3-5 minute walk
Food
Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf - My hangout and the best Frapps in town.  I love the staff here and they love me.  Get a membership card or register your gift cards on an account online if you plan on frequenting this place.
Las Vacas - Although it looks like an outdoor steak and burger place, it is so much more.  Inside you can buy fresh meat of a wide variety.  The butchers are standing right there behind the counter.  It is a bit pricey but getting good meat usually is.  If you don't have a lot of money just have a seat outside and order the burger (beef/pork/lamb-250g/350g) and you've got a meal for 25rm... but drinks not included.
Baskin Robins - Pretty much the only Ice Cream place within short walking distance.  This one has much better service than the one at Publika.
Ramen Taiko - Great traditional japanese food but a little to pricey for me.

Wendy's - Fast Food. Used to love having one of these nearby, but then they stopped stocking the chocolate frosties.  Still good to swing by if I'm in the mood for nuggets.
Porto Romano - Our Italian place to eat for Mont Kiara.  Love this place.  There is also a trained bartender here and a pretty well stocked bar for special mixed drinks.  If you are on a budget the Italian Salad and the Lasagna are both great.

Meridin No. 19
Food
Dominoes - Have never had problems with their delivery and the pizza has never dissapointed.  If you use their online delivery system they credit you with free food coupons everytime for your next delivery.
