Paying the Bills

Your Utilities

Electricity - Tenaga Nasional               http://www.tnb.com.my/
Electricity is cheap but if you are like me and want to sleep in a nice cold room, you will probably be running your A/C pretty often.  Plan for this to be your highest needed utility.

Water - Multiple
Water is shockingly cheap in this country and is usually paid to the condos/apartments you live in since they tank it and supply it to you from the many water stations around KL.

Gas - Gas Malaysia Berhad                http://www.gasmalaysia.com/
Gas is also extremely cheap here.  It is best to try and find a unit that has a gas oven (assuming you like to cook) since gas is SO much cheaper then electricity.

Internet - Multiple
In Mont Kiara there are many companies competing to be your internet/cable provider.  There is one important fact that you need to know that is not common knowledge.  TIME Malaysia owns all of the fibre optics laid in Mont Kiara.  So unless there is a specific cable package you like, or someone is cutting you a really good deal, it is best to cut out the middle man and go straight to TIME for your internet.  http://www.time.com.my/

Rent
No matter where you find a place to live, rent pretty much works the same everywhere.  To start off you will need two and a half months rent up front (two months deposit, half month utility deposit) to get the place you need.  How this is paid and how soon it is signed off on greatly depends upon the owner and the realtor you are working with.  I strongly recommend talking to someone who has lived in the area to find out which condo/complex will match you as a person.  All of them are quite different and usually you get what you pay for.

How do I pay my bills?
Assuming you are living in Mont Kiara, any of the bank branches here have online bill pay and all the information you need will be on the bill when it is sent to you.  If you are a person who does not like paying stuff online you can also go to the Malaysian Post at Plaza Mont Kiara to pay your bills to a person.  If you really really want to do things the hard way, you can take a cab down to KLCC and find the office for each of the utilities and hand them what they want.
